Insight on the 2025 National Children's Month Celebration

The 2025 National Children’s Month Celebration, with the theme “OSAEC-CSAEM Wakasan: Kaligtasan at Karapatan ng Bata, Ipaglaban!”, highlights one of the most urgent issues faced by Filipino children today—online sexual abuse and exploitation. In a world where technology is rapidly growing, children are exposed not only to opportunities but also to serious digital threats. This theme reminds us that protecting children’s dignity, innocence, and well-being must always be a national priority. It also encourages every sector—schools, families, communities, and the government—to unite in defending children's rights.

The Philippine government has taken several important steps to address OSAEC and CSAEM. Laws such as the Anti-OSAEC Act (Republic Act 11930) strengthen enforcement against online predators, regulate internet service providers, and mandate faster reporting systems. Government agencies like the DSWD, DOJ, DepEd, and PNP-WCPC also work together to rescue victims, provide psychological support, and educate the public about online safety. While these efforts show dedication, the fight is far from over. Cases continue to rise, especially in vulnerable communities, so implementation and awareness must be stronger and more consistent.

As a young person, I believe protecting children goes beyond making laws—it requires guidance, education, and empowerment. Children need safe environments where they can grow without fear, with adults who watch over their online activities and teach them how to protect themselves. Schools should also help students recognize warning signs of online exploitation and encourage them to speak up. When children feel supported and heard, they become more confident in defending their own rights.

Overall, the theme of this year’s celebration is a powerful reminder that every child deserves safety, dignity, and genuine care. Ending OSAEC and CSAEM is not only the responsibility of the government but of every Filipino. By staying informed, reporting suspicious activities, and promoting a culture of respect, we can build a safer future where children are protected and free to dream.
